VICTORIAN REVITALIZATION

This 19th Century Victorian residence was built as a North Shore summer home for a wealthy Chicago family. Known as Green Gables, it was neglected for many years and it appeared to another tear-down. Our clients, however, saw the beauty of the original architecture and hired us to bring the house into the 21st Century while retaining its historic character.

A complete exterior and interior rehabilitation restored many of the historic architectural features. A new three-story addition includes a four-car garage, family room, kitchen and master bedroom suite. The hayloft of a former stable was converted into a home office and sculpture studio.

The project earned a Great American Home Award from Old-House Journal and an award from the Glencoe Historic Preservation Commission.
