Built in 1909 and situation on 2.5 across a private wooden bridge, this estate was influenced by the English Arts & Crafts style. Formal gardens, lush landscape and a deep ravine surround the home.
Over the years, contemporary changes were made that were not in-keeping with the original building design and character. The current homeowners were eager to give this estate the care and attention it deserved, and "undo" the insensitive building changes.
The scope of work included interior and exterior renovations, as well as rehabilitation of the eastern servant's wing. This rehabilitation encompassed newly renovated spaces including the master bathroom, kitchen, family room, office, butler's pantry, mudroom, playroom, children's game room and private office. Also, a new service foyer creates a more efficient link between the formal spaces and service spaces.
Carefully detailed changes have allowed this country house to return to its original beauty. After reviewing the estate, the State of Illinois Historic Preservation Agency has approved the changes as meeting their renovation/rehabilitation standards. Today, this house has returned to one of Lake Forest’s exceptional country estates.
