This new residence and bridge is designed in the English Arts & Crafts style. Built on a triangular site, it takes its shape and massing from the ravine which forms its long side. To maintain the site’s park-like setting, the footprint of the house maximizes landscaped areas. Except for one that was removed to accommodate a bridge abutment, every mature tree remains on-site.
The formal spaces of the house face the ravine, while informal spaces
of the house face the property’s meadow, maximizing southern light, with diagonal northern vistas to the ravine and woods.
The bridge is located at the fork in the "Y" of the ravine.
Careful selection of building materials enhance an English Arts & Crafts romantic cottage-style
appearance of the house.
The project won a preservation award from the City of Lake Forest Historic Preservation Commission for new construction in an historic district and is featured in the book "Dream Homes."
