PRAIRIE VIEW METRA STATION

Population growth in Vernon Township, located northwest of Chicago in Lake County, warranted the addition of a new Metra stop for commuters. Local government officials wanted a station that would recall the area’s Victorian and agrarian heritage and establish a civic identity for the community. The station would stand in contrast to the non-descript, residential developments that were emerging throughout the area.

We used the town’s long-demolished original train station as inspiration for this new red-brick icon. The project was named Project of the Year by the Chicago Chapter of the American Public Works Association.
